                of Vallejo’s Conan

                all the efforts
to emboss the arm with vein and axe
                                the leg with four-fold flex and colour
                butt-orb rising early from the rock

                all out from the mist and cold authority
                                posed and ready
but never engaged
                                poised on a summit
                but never enveloped
                                              thirty five years of tilting out of balance
                                since it was painted
