at the brow of even mild hills
on the curve of the red-leaf path

the copse at either side will be
                black and hack-hack skeletal and

                the tatterdemalion-grey sky
will seem like the moon has

come too close to Earth, only
the ridge and chimney of the next

                dwelling sits down beyond the
                brow quietly contemplating eternity
