2017, 7*, angel, circle, clock, doing, everything, glass, lifetimes, light, nothing, Salisbury Cathedral, speech, statue, stone, time

                Salisbury Cathedral

                angels fizz and jagger touch
                a single flame of tongue

                the oldest working clock
                shows no time anymore;

                so much empty stone
                so many lives lost

                only coloured light of lineage
                and majesty keeping inward –

                so much hopeful effort frozen
                in faraway stare outwards –

                curlicue ends of stone form
                perfect circles of nothing

                suspended in everything

there is nothing ventured that gain doesn’t think it so, there is everything gained by staying in the centre of the circle; read the whole sequence as it hangs unearthly in space: in and out / the Avebury stones / can’t seem to get / a signal …

2014, coffee shop, emptiness, nothing, opportunity, reggae, renewal, table, writing

                           always a challenge
                           the coffee shop opportunity

                           cup almost empty
                           clear space on the table

                           and the reggae
                           always resuming anew from

                           the same root
                           that just reached a crescendo

                           nothing gained
nothing lost, time for the last sip

the both passive and transitive / non-presumptive pre-conceptualist attenuation of being

                                the both passive and transitive
                non-presumptive pre-conceptualist attenuation of being

anxiety across the open page unsure,
                perched on the open line

‘what if I put pen to paper and nothing happens?’
‘what if there is nothing but empty page and feint line?’ does not trust

that I am alive and cognisant to the heart
of every beat if I had but the courage to face it,

all down through the endless steps of line
whether there are words on the line

that I write in flow, or hesitancy, or not
and whether they make sense or not

and whether my sitting was transcendent
or not, or not done at all

and whether I concave at the pointlessness of activity
or create the key to all strife and striving, or fail, or get depressed

I will continue eventful to evenness
affording honour to is, and ‘no big deal’ to what is not

                               nothing is
                             ever lost
                           that was
                        n’t there           when things
                       all along              change
                         anyway               from start
                          but that                to finish
                             thinking             because
                            made it so          everything
                                                    changes
                                                  by itself
                                               peacefully

                                 if left alone

2013, being, continuing, emptiness, experience, freedom, letting go, nothing, posture, practice, sitting, travelling, wanting

                                when sitting I sit
                                a posture and dwell …

                                I am travelling now
                                what do I experience …?

                                in both I miss
                                the empty centre

                                of nothing happening
but wanting makes it so …

I suppose I’ll just keep on
                                sitting and moving

                                until I stop or maybe
                                better

stop wanting that I can sit
                                and move more freely

2011, acceptance, achievement, agenda, consistency, doing, emptiness, expectation, hearing, identity, meaning, nothing, purpose, significance, thinking, values, world

                                              nothing

                nothing (that I thought matters)
matters (in a world which juggles agendas)

                nothing (that I thought important)
is important (in a world which is value-bled)

                nothing (that I had created)
is significant (in a world that clings to consistency)

                nothing (I say)
is heard (in a world that only expects)

                nothing (I do)
is achieved (in a world with no manner)

                I came out of nothing
                tried hard to achieve something

heard only the noise of my own effort
                                – no echo –

                maybe I should accept that
                there    –    is    –    nothing

and as the texts then say
                everything happens and everything matters
